as far as I understand, people loved this game, and they got some much free updates and content too? Am I wrong here?

People cant differentiate because they are blind with all kinds of bs hate they have. OW was a good game for few years, gave plenty of content for a semi full price game (40 bucks). You could literally earn all skins by just playing, it wasnt even that hard.
