There is a terrible spiral when you barely make ends meet. Know that. Been there. Hate myself for not realising it earlier. And I'm not from the US. When money is tight, you think twice about what you use your money for. But - and that but is so big I almost wrote it with a second T: because your life is miserable, short bursts of endorphins suddenly get more value than healthy stuff. So if you have let's say 5$ for a single meal a day, you'd rather go for the frozen pizza or Mac'n'Cheese or something that blows you away, than for let's say lettuce, onions and some tomatoes to make a salad out of that. Why? Because you want to give yourself "a treat". You earned that money hard and you want to feel something in return. This in combination with the fact that some unhealthy food "feels" like you get more bang for the buck lures you into that endless spiral of feeling shitty once the endorphins stop, not having enough energy to do something, wanting more food that makes you feel good...

When buying fresh goods is greatly expensive but you can eat chick-fil-a, mcdonalds, tacobell, or pizzahut for a fraction of the price of fresh food, and you don't have to lose time cooking... So you can keep the three jobs you need to pay rent and healthcare. The land of the free.

Its a system made to go around in circles. Shit food is cheap

Ahm its exoensive to eat healthy food over there. And thers more of the garbage sugary stuff so its harder to be healthy

People don't always think of that when they're young and healthy. Middle age hits and boom. Shit goes wrong.

I thought it was Mexico.

You would think so. You would also think that people would just naturally want to be healthy to prevent any issues at all in the first place. But no, people are dumb and have no discipline. Also there's an issue with the other commenters bitching about healthy stuff being expensive; rich people are fat too! Most of them at that! It's not just a money issue. People are fat bastards and ultimately don't care. And food isn't the only aspect of being unhealthy. Excersize is free. It's another huge component that many don't want to do, no matter how much money they have.

i was alive when a bigmac was around a dollar, it was easier, cheaper and faster to eat fast food, when unhealthy food is more affordable than healthy food, you got obesity, wasnt about health at this time

1)US Healthcare IS expensive af but that's compared to other currencies around. It probably wouldn't seem as expensive if you earn in a higher than a Dollar value amount currency..like Pound-Sterling or Yen 2) It's not that they exactly lack healthcare due to expenses but are hopelessly dependent on things like Health Insurance etc . If they don't have it,they're screwed. If YOU don't have it as a Non-American because you never needed it &lived in free healthcare or dirt cheap healthcare fee country but get caught in a US Hospital, you're definitely screwed! 3)They just usually like to complain about whatever Healthcare plan they have.. whatever it's state 4)Obesity is from lifestyle logic like trying to balance a 7 course meal with Diet Coke on top in name of watching their calories, rather than Healthcare plans they would have. No amount of plans would save them from that.

They're motivated to ensure the accident they're about get into is going to kill them

Why? I have great health insurance
